Hair Transplant Surgery

Hair transplant is a surgical procedure that restores hair to men and women whose hair is thinning. Contemporary hair transplantation offers results that are natural and undetectable. The procedure works by taking advantage of the fact that hair follicles in the back of the scalp remain thicker and grow for a longer period of time compared to hairs in the front, which tend to thin over time.

With today’s advanced techniques, experienced hair transplant surgeons like Dr. Shyam are able to achieve a level of naturalness that is undetectable from the patient’s original hair. Once the hair is transplanted, it will continue to grow exactly like it did from the original donor area.

When a hair transplant is properly performed, approximately 95% of hair grafts are typically maintained and transplanted hair should remain in place permanently. It takes approximately 4 – 6 months for transplanted hair to start growing, although the full effect of any hair transplant procedure is generally not realized for 12 – 18 months following the procedure.

We perform hair transplants on the weekend to ensure patient privacy. Procedures can take 4-6 hours depending on the amount of hairs transferred. If you have concerns about hair loss and are curious if a hair transplant will help to restore your hair, contact Dr. Shyam’s office to schedule a consultation today.

Why choose Dr. Shyam for your hair transplant surgery?

Hair transplantation is both a surgical as well as artistic procedure and QUALITY matters! Many Hair Transplant “chains” out there treat you only like a number and perform 20 to 30 hair transplants a week. Dr. Shyam believes that performing only 1-2 hair transplant surgeries a week and only one a day (never two) allows him to concentrate and exercise both artistry and attention during every procedure. Hair grafts are never chopped up quickly, or thrown away. The job is always done right, and time is taken to ensure that your hair transplant experience is always superlative. Dr. Shyam is personally involved in all aspects of the procedure including hairline design, donor harvest and closure, recipient-site creation, graft dissection, and graft placement. His hair transplant team has over 10 years of experience. The quality of the team is critical. In addition, by limiting his surgery to only 1 case per day, his team can remain fresh and dedicated, as hair restoration is a very time consuming and taxing procedure on the team.

Dr. Shyam specializes in FUE (follicular unit extraction), the newest form of hair transplantation that minimizes scar appearance, reduces post-operative pain and results in a quick, seamless recovery.

With FUE, follicular units are harvested individually from the back of the scalp. FUE has evolved as an excellent harvesting technique and the advantage is that there is no linear scar.

The dominant feature of FUE is the extraction of the smallest natural hair groups, the so-called follicular units, or FUs for short. Each of these anatomical units generally consists of 1 – 4 hairs.

The extraction method is one of the most important and decisive factors in any hair transplant. The focus is not on extracting as many grafts as possible, but on the quality of the hair roots, as they play a decisive role in determining whether the grafts take root.

One of the most crucial aspects of hair transplantation is hairline design. Artistry and care must be used to decide where the grafts are placed. This involves angling the transplanted hair forward and in a pattern that is consistent with the existing hairline. Single hair follicular units are placed along the frontal 1cm to allow for the most soft and natural results. Larger follicular unit grafts are placed behind this softer hairline to provide increased density. Your results will be as natural as the hairs that previously existed there.

One of the most frequently asked questions is how many grafts will it take? The answer is it depends on how much coverage is required and the quality of the donor hair available. In most cases, it may be preferable to fill in the frontal and mid-scalp areas before moving to other areas (crown/vertex). Hair provides an important frame to the face. Without this essential frame, some patients can look unnatural with their vertex/crown filled in when hair is still missing in the frontal or mid-scalp part of their head.
